Lifestyle modifications

Lifestyle modifications are the first and most effective line of treatment.

Dietary changes

    • High-fiber diet like whole food grains, vegetables
    • Poultry and fish, and healthy fats like nuts and oilseeds.
    • Low carbohydrates and sugar like white bread, pastries, sodas, and juices.
  • Regular physical exercise: Regular moderate physical activity can improve insulin sensitivity and help regulate menstrual cycles.
  • Stress management: Techniques like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing

Medications
Your doctor may prescribe medications to manage specific symptoms of PCOD.
  • Hormonal birth control: Can regulate menstrual cycles, improve acne and unwanted hair growth
  • Metformin: Helps to improve insulin resistance. It can lower insulin and androgen levels, which may help regulate menstrual cycles.
  • Anti-androgen medications: Like spironolactoctone help to reduce excess hair growth and acne.
  • Fertility medications: For those who want to become pregnant, your doctor may prescribe medications to induce ovulation. These include:
    • Clomiphene citrate: An oral anti-estrogen medication.
    • Letrozole: An oral medication that can stimulate the ovaries.
    • Gonadotropins: Hormone injections that stimulate the ovaries to release eggs.
