10 most common causes of redness of eyes

Redness of the eyes is caused by inflammation of the blood vessels on the surface of eyes.
- Pink Eye [ Conjunctivitis ] : It is an inflammation of the the clear membrane covering the whites of your eyes called conjunctiva. Its common causes are viral or bacterial infection. Allergies and irritants other less common causes.
- Allergies: to pollen, dust, and pet dander.
- Dry eye syndrome: When your eyes do not produce enough tears.
- Digital eye strain: Focusing on a computer, phone, or tablet for extended periods.
- Environmental irritants: like smoke, fumes, and pollutants can irritate the eyes.
- Irritation by contact lenses
- Subconjunctival hemorrhage
- Blepharitis: This is an inflammation of the eyelids.
- Sleep deprivation: Lack of sleep.
- Eye injury
When to see a doctor
Most causes of red eyes are benign and clear up on their own. However, you should consult eye specialist if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Pain in the eye
- Diminishing vision
- Sensitivity to light
- A feeling that something is stuck in your eye
- Eye discharge
- Fever
- Persistent redness
